| Raw material introduction |
![]() |
We sell artichoke extracts in bulk. Artichoke (scientific name: Cynara scolymus, English: artichoke), often known as food sustaining artichoke and artichoke, is a purchased raw material. It is an artichoke plant in the composite family that grows near the Mediterranean coast. In Hong Kong, it is known as Yazhi bamboo or subzhi bamboo, owing to its Italian pronunciation, and is widely distributed in Shaanxi Province and other parts of the Chinese Mainland. Its blossom buds are edible and were introduced to Chinese society through Italian cuisine.

According to artichoke extract wholesalers, artichoke leaves contain a wide range of active ingredients, including artichoke extract, quinic acid, chlorogenic acid, neo chlorogenic acids, and artichoke glucosides, all of which have cholagogic (stimulating bile secretion) and anti-inflammatory properties. As a result, they are extensively used to treat dyspepsia in Europe, particularly after high-fat meals. Artichoke also contains flavonoids such rutin, luteolin, and phytosterol, which provide antioxidant and liver protection.
| Key values |
![]() |
1. Manage dyspepsia
Artichoke has been used as a herbal medication to relieve dyspepsia throughout Europe. Artichoke extract is used to treat gastrointestinal illnesses such as stomach pain, distension, nausea, and vomiting.
2. Lowering blood lipids and preventing atherosclerosis
Many studies have shown that artichoke extract can lower blood lipids, mostly through influencing cholesterol and lipid synthesis and decomposition in the liver to manage lipid levels and thereby prevent atherosclerosis.
3. Liver protection and antioxidant function
Artichoke leaf extract was the primary focus of research on the antioxidant effect of artichoke. The antioxidant potential of polyphenol compounds isolated from artichoke was discovered by artichoke extract distributors to be mostly determined by the quantity of hydroxyl groups on the aromatic ring.
Furthermore, the second hydroxyl group in the ortho and para positions can boost antioxidant capacity. The EC50 values of 1 g dried artichoke extract on DPPH and FRAP were similar to 29.2 mg and 62.6 mg VC, 77.9 mg and 159 mg VE, respectively, and had a good anti-LDL oxidation impact.
The antioxidant test findings of rat hepatocytes in vitro demonstrated that 0.001 mg/ml aqueous extract could reduce MDA content without changing glutathione (GSH) levels in hepatocytes, indicating that artichoke extract has a high antioxidant activity. Therefore, the main reason for the extract's ability to preserve and regenerate the liver is its antioxidant function.
4. Antimicrobial effect
The antimicrobial activity of chlorogenic acid, artichoke acid, luteolin-7-rutoside, and silymarin in artichoke is relatively high, with antifungal action outweighing antibacterial activity.
As a professional supplier in the plant extract industry, we understand that sourcing a raw material is about much more than its active ingredient content. What truly affects your end product’s reputation and supply chain efficiency are often the “invisible” aspects: Is the quality consistent? Are batches uniform? Does it adapt to your formulation process? How soon can you receive it after placing an order? Will there be shortages during peak seasons?
For Artichoke Extract, we have established a comprehensive quality management system covering the entire process. Below, we address the five dimensions that matter most to you.
Quality Control: Checks from Field to Lab |
![]() |
Raw material source – We use only artichoke flower buds (not leaves) from designated cooperative bases in Hebei and Shandong, with varieties Green Globe and Imperial Star, ensuring a solid foundation of cynarin and chlorogenic acid.
Process control – Low‑temperature counter‑current extraction, membrane separation, and low‑temperature spray drying preserve heat‑sensitive active components. Online monitoring of pH, temperature, and flow rate at critical points prevents intra‑batch variation.
Finished product testing – Each batch is tested for:
Chlorogenic acid (HPLC, ≥2.5%)
Cynarin (HPLC, ≥0.8%)
Moisture (≤5.0%), ash (≤8.0%)
Heavy metals (Pb ≤1.0 ppm, As ≤1.0 ppm, Cd ≤0.5 ppm)
Residual solvents (compliant with EP/USP)
Microbial limits (compliant with USP <61>)
Third‑party verification – Annual testing by SGS or Eurofins for pesticide residues (480+ items), plasticizers, and aflatoxins, meeting market access requirements for the EU, US, Japan, and other major regions.
Batch Stability: Making Every Batch a “Twin” |
![]() |
Raw material blending strategy – Within the same harvest season, multiple bud lots are tested and blended based on chlorogenic acid content to ensure uniform raw material for the year’s extraction.
Fixed process parameters – Once the blending plan is confirmed, all extraction parameters (temperature, time, solvent ratio, drying profile) are locked and remain unchanged throughout the production season.
Internal control range – Batch‑to‑batch variation of key active ingredients (chlorogenic acid, cynarin) is controlled within ±5%, much tighter than the industry typical ±10%.
Retention samples and traceability – Retain samples are kept for 24 months, and an HPLC fingerprint library is established. With the batch number, you can access raw material source, production records, original QC data, and retain sample photos at any time.
Adaptability: Compatible with Mainstream Dosage Forms & Formulations |

We know that an extract is not the final product – it must be “easy to use” to become your choice.
Basic properties – Light yellow to brown‑yellow powder with a mild characteristic odor of artichoke; ≥98% passes through an 80‑mesh sieve.
Solubility – Forms a uniform suspension (not completely transparent) in water, suitable for tablets, capsules, and granules. For clear beverages, we offer a microencapsulated solubilized version (at an additional cost).
Compatibility – Mixed testing with 27 common excipients and active ingredients (e.g., lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, vitamin C, probiotics) showed no significant degradation or caking. Customized segregation packaging recommendations available for special requirements.
Customizable particle size – Standard product D90 ≤150 μm; can be ground to 20–200 mesh or pre‑blended with anti‑caking agents (e.g., silicon dioxide, tricalcium phosphate) for direct‑compression tablets.
