What is Psoralea corylifolia
Psoralea corylifolia extract powder is a plant natural ingredient found on the seeds and leaves of a plant called Psoralea corylifolia. It originates from India and plays an important role in Ayurveda's herbal therapy. It is also widely used in China in many aspects related to traditional Chinese medicine.
Chemical property
1 Coumarins
Coumarins mainly include furacoumarins and estrolides. Among them, furan coumarins mainly include Psoralen, Isopsoralen, 8-methoxypsoralen and Bakuchicin. Estrolactone like compounds mainly contain Psoralidin, Isopsoralidin, Corylidin, Bvacoumestan A, Bvacoumestan B, Sophoracoumestan A and Neo psoralen.
2 Flavonoids
Many flavonoids such as flavonol, isoflavone, dihydroflavone and chalcone have been isolated from psoralen extract powder, among which flavonol includes astragaloside. Isoflavones include psoralen isoflavones (Corylin), neopsoralen isoflavones (Neobabaisoflavone), psoralen isoflavone aldehyde (Corylinal), psoralenol, psoralen isoflavone glycosides and daidzins. Dihydroflavonoid compounds mainly contain Psoralen A (Bavachin), Isopsoralen Dihydroflavone (Isobavachin), Psoralen Dihydroflavone Methyl Ether (Bavachinin), etc. Chalcone compounds mainly include Bavachalcone, Isopsoralcone, Neopsoralcone, Isopsoralcone, etc.
3 Monoterpene Phenols
Monoterpenoid phenolic compounds are the main components of plant volatile oil. The first monoterpenoid phenolic compound found in the powder of fructus psoraleae extract is fructus psoraleae (Bakuchiol). The monoterpene phenolic compounds discovered subsequently include 2,3-epoxypsoralen (Hydroxybakuchiol) Δ 1,3-Hydroxypsoralen( Δ 1, 3-hydmxyhakuehid) and Δ 1,2-Hydroxypsoralen( Δ 1,2-hydmxybakuchiol)。
Pharmacological action
Modern pharmacological studies show that Psoralea corylifolia extract powder has strong antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects in vitro. There is a patent to make it into medicine for the treatment of breast cancer and osteoporosis. In view of the extensive application of Psoralea corylifolia, the content of psoralen, one of its main components, is far higher than the total content of psoralen and isopsoralen. The study showed that the powder of Psoralea corylifolia extract significantly inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Propionibacterium acnes.
