It mainly contains toosendanin, azadirachtin, azadirachtin terpene lactone, azadirachtin terpene lactone, azadirachtin terpene methyl ester, azadirachtin triol, etc.
Modern research shows that the decoction or alcohol extract of the drug can inhibit or even paralyze Ascaris lumbricoides, and the effective component of ascaris drive is toosendanin; A large dose of toosendanin (2mg intravenously or intramuscularly per rat) can cause respiratory failure in rats;
Toosendanin can irreversibly inhibit the muscle contraction caused by indirect stimulation in rats, but it does not affect the nerve excitation conduction and does not reduce the muscle response to direct stimulation;
Protomorph
Deciduous trees, 15-20 meters high. The bark is dark brown, the young branches have star-shaped hair, which immediately falls off, and the old branches are purple, with pinprickly lenticels.
Reverse-feathery compound leaves, alternate, 20-80 cm long; The leaflets are ovate to elliptic, 3~7cm long and 2~3cm wide, the base is wide wedge-shaped or round, the apex is long and pointed, the edge is toothless, the upper part is dark green, the lower part is light green, there is star hair when young, and later there is no hair except white hair on the veins.
Pharmacological action of extract powder from neem bark
The toosendanin contained in the root bark or dry skin of toosendan and toosendan (the inner white with the outer layer of brown rough skin removed) has the effect of expelling ascaris.
In the early years, it has been proved that the alcohol extract of neem bark has a paralyzing effect on ascaris lumbricoides in vitro, especially on its head. Since the extraction of its effective ingredient, the effect is far stronger than the alcohol extract, and it is slow and lasting compared with Yamadaojian.
There are two ways to explain its principle of action: the observation of the effect of azadirachtin with a higher concentration (more than 1:1000) on Ascaris suum shows that it can paralyze Ascaris suum, especially the ganglion of its head; With a lower concentration (1:5000~9000) of azadirachtin, it was observed that azadirachtin had an obvious excitatory effect on ascaris lumbricoides and its segments (head and middle), which was characterized by increased spontaneous activity, intermittent abnormal severe contraction, breaking the regularity of its movement (the activity increased and decreased alternately), and could last for a long time (10~24 hours).
