Andrographis paniculata is actually the dried fruit of the Oleaceae plant Forsythia suspensa. In autumn, when the fruit is just ripe and still green, it is harvested, impurities are removed, steamed, dried, and made into Andrographis paniculata for storage.
The ingredients of Andrographis paniculata fruit mainly include volatile oils such as hydrocarbons, aldehydes and ketones, alcohol and lipid ether compounds, phenylethanol glycosides such as forsythiaside A, C, and D, lignans such as forsythiaside, triterpenes such as oleanolic acid, and organic acids such as caffeic acid.
Andrographis paniculata is native to India and tropical Southeast Asia, and was later introduced to China, where it is commonly cultivated in Fujian, Guangdong, Hainan, Guangxi, Yunnan, and later introduced in Jiangsu and Shaanxi.
