Biological origin
The extract powder of Atractylodes macrocephala is derived mostly from the rhizome of Atractylodes macrocephala, a Compositae plant.
Chemical composition
Atractylon, Atractylol, Butenolide A, Butenolide B, 3- - Acetoxyatractylon, 3- - Hydroxyattractylon, Selena-4 (14), 7 (11) dien-8-one, sesquiterpene (C15H22O) are the primary components of volatile oil. Atractylol acylation products include Tetradeca-2, 8, 10-trien-4, 6-diene-1, 12, 14-triol.
Pharmacological action
1. Diuretic effect
By gavage or intravenous injection, Atractylodes macrocephala decoction and fluid extract have a diuretic effect on rats, rabbits, dogs, and other animals. The decoction of Atractylodes macrocephala contained 0.050.25g/kg. It began to diureze dogs after 0.51 hours of intravenous infusion. It peaked at 2 hours and lasted for 1.5 hours. The average amount of pee increased by 9.2 times. Urine volume rose by 26 times after 13g/kg oral dosing. After 67 hours of administration, the majority of them were remained higher than normal. Atractylodes macrocephala not only boosted water excretion but also promoted electrolyte excretion, particularly sodium excretion. The output of salt increased 35.2 times, while chlorine, urine CO2 capacity, pH value, and potassium increased to varying degrees.
2. Hypoglycemic effect
The blood sugar of rabbits was somewhat lowered following oral administration of Atractylodes macrocephala extract powder, whereas that of rats after oral administration of the decoction could accelerate glucose absorption in the body and therefore lower blood sugar.
3. Anti coagulation
The thrombin time was greatly delayed in rats fed 0.5g/kg decoction every day for 1 to 4 weeks, and the root was stronger than the stem. After 4 days of taking 1 tablespoon of root decoction (1:20) three times a day, the thrombin time and coagulation time were dramatically lengthened. More over ten days after the medicine was withdrawn, the thrombin and coagulation times reverted to normal. The ethanol extract was equally beneficial, but the duration of maintenance was brief.
4. Immune enhancement
Baizhu decoction can considerably improve the phagocytic function of peritoneal macrophages in mice, increasing cell size, phagocytosis, and shrinking the nucleus. Atractylodes macrocephala has been shown in studies to significantly increase the number of TH cells in mice with low immune function, increase the THChemicalbook/TS ratio, correct the disorder of TC cell subpopulation distribution, significantly increase the low level of IL-2, and increase the expression of IL-2R on the surface of T lymphocytes, suggesting that it may be an important mechanism of immune enhancement and immune regulation.
5. Antioxidant effect
Animal experiments show that Atractylodes macrocephala has an obvious antioxidant effect, can effectively reduce lipid peroxidation, reduce the content of LPO, can avoid the damage of harmful substances to the structure and function of tissues and cells, and also has the tendency to increase SOD activity, enhance the body's ability to remove free radicals, and reduce free radical damage to the body.
6. Antitire effect
Atractylodes macrocephala extract powder and petroleum ether extract have significant inhibitory effects on spontaneous contraction of isolated uterus of non pregnant mice and excitatory contraction of uterus caused by oxytocin and motherwort, with a dose effect relationship, and the inhibitory effect increases with increasing drug concentration. In vivo, Atractylodes macrocephala extract powder totally inhibits oxytocin-induced tension contraction of a pregnant guinea pig uterus. Water extract has a minor inhibitory impact on isolated uterus.
7. Other functions
